We are happy to offer a research service to members of the public, media and anyone seeking information relating to St Dunstan’s - from the history of the organisation to finding out more about an artefact to tracing a St Dunstaner.

Unfortunately we only have the ability to carry out research on blind ex-Service men and women and we do not hold any official personal service records.

If you are sending your request by mail and wish us to carry out research it would be appreciated if a first class stamp could be enclosed with your request to help towards postage.

Research is carried out on a voluntary basis and a fee is not charged. However, a donation towards work undertaken is always most welcome.

Family history

Please provide as much information as possible including the individual's full name, date of birth and a Regiment. It is worth noting that for family research purposes we rarely hold details on relatives of St Dunstaners.

The Army Personal Centre Historical Disclosures Section holds personal service records of soldiers and officers between 1921 and 1997. For ex-Army personnel, or their widows/widowers, it can supply statements of service or confirmation of particular aspects of service from the records it holds. This service is free. It can also provide the same service for members of the family or other members of the public, subject to the consent of the next of kin and the payment of a fee.

The Army Medal Office

The office at "Droitwich Spa" has moved to the address below. It holds details of most campaign medals issued from the 1920s and is the authority for questions concerning entitlement to current campaign medals. The Office provides two main services:

  1. Issue of medals to those entitled persons who have never received them.
  2. Replacement of medals under certain conditions for entitled personnel.

For both circumstances, an initial letter should be sent to the Medal Office explaining the precise request and the circumstances behind it. As much of the following information as possible concerning the original recipient or entitled person should be included and where possible backed up with photocopies only of supporting documentation (entitlement to medals is only determined from original records held by the Army).

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Service number
  • Date of joining first unit
  • Date of leaving/transfer/demob

Replacement of medals are only offered to recipient or immediate next of kin, and then only when clear and documented proof of loss is provided.
