St Dunstan's Ovingdean
The Centre is situated on the South East coast in the village of Ovingdean, which is approximately 4 miles outside of the popular seaside resort of Brighton. The building itself is a Grade II listed building built for St Dunstan's in 1938 with large grounds that have designated safe pathways and is a short walk to the seafront. The Centre is built so each floor has a similar layout and so that St Dunstaners can find their way around the building, the rule of the road is that everyone must walk on the right hand side.
The first visit that St Dunstaners and their families have is to this centre. Here the vision impairment of each individual is assessed and their rehabilitation and training needs are determined accordingly.
Visitors and Residents can take advantage of the extensive facilities at the Centre from an IT suite, Art and Craft Workshop, gym, swimming pool and other sports and recreation activities. The skills that a St Dunstaner learns will help them to live an independent life and to restore and maintain their fitness and mobility.
Support, care and social activities
Many St Dunstaners visit Ovingdean for holidays and respite care and can benefit from a programme of social activities as well as themed weeks.
While most of the 85 bedrooms house short stay visitors, some St Dunstaners have a permanent home at the centre and can take advantage of the support, comfort and security of a Nursing and Residential Care Home registered by CQC (Care Quality Commission).
