Supporter Judith Clarke signed up to do the Edinburgh Marathon 2010 for St Dunstan's.
Judith Clarke - St Dunstan's Edinburgh Marathon RunnerI wouldn't have agreed to run a marathon if I hadn't had one too many G&Ts, but having signed up I thought I'd better stick with it! It made sense, seeing as I was running, to try and make some money for St Dunstan's in the process. The work they do is fantastic, and St Dunstaners are truly inspirational people. I am not built to run and training did not go well: by the time I got to the startline I'd never run further than 10 miles… However, accompanied by some cracking tunes I actually really enjoyed the marathon! Seeing my mum and friend along the way really kept me going and the people of Edinburgh were fantastic, cheering people's names (I recommend writing your name on your St Dunstan’s running vest), standing in the road with bits of clementine and jelly babies and spraying us with hoses and sprinklers! I was massively spurred on by seeing people battling with all sorts of things such as partial sightedness and full military kit (including helmet), and just thought 'total respect to them' and 'if they can run this thing then I, fully sighted and wearing normal running gear, have got nothing to complain about or to stop me finishing!' It was the most amazing day and it proves you can do anything you set your mind to, if you want to do it. I got so much out of the day, and it was great to have raised money for St Dunstan's in the process.
