Our introductory courses

Our Rehabilitation and Training Departments at Ovingdean and Sheffield, run tailored introductory courses for new St Dunstaners.

The courses cover:

Our highly-trained Rehabilitation Officers for Visually Impaired People (ROVIs) assess, advise and train each St Dunstaner according to their individual needs, helping them to improve their level of independence.

Coming to terms with visual impairment

The Introductory Week is often a watershed for people coming to terms with visual impairment. Meeting other people in similar circumstances and sharing experiences is a key part of the course.

Over the week, we help St Dunstaners realise that self-sufficiency, a fulfilling career, enjoyable hobbies and an active social life are still within their reach.

Top-up training

Many St Dunstaners return to Ovingdean or Sheffield to top up their training or learn new skills. These courses are in one or two-week blocks.
