Despite being registered blind, Keith Lanchester-Harding has been selected to be part of the Great Britain Disabled Archery team.
St Dunstaner Keith, from Heath, Cardiff, served in the Staffordshire Regiment for nearly ten years before losing his sight. He has tunnel vision* and consequently is able to use a bowsight. Keith attended a talent identification weekend at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Shropshire. The selection involved a shoot at a distance of 70 meters, a distance that Keith had not shot to before the trial.
The Great Britain Disabled Archery squad only takes an archer's physical impairment into consideration, so Keith will be competing against fully sighted archers. This is a fantastic achievement for Keith, who has been shooting for almost three years.
At St Dunstan's, we realise that regular participation in any form of physical activity not only helps improve fitness levels but also plays a major role in building confidence, self esteem and general quality of life. St Dunstaners participate in a variety of sport activities including golf, archery, bowling and rifle-shooting. * Tunnel vision is the loss of peripheral vision with retention of central vision, resulting in a constricted circular tunnel-like field of vision.
