A gift in your Will
A gift to St Dunstan's in your Will can help change lives. Legacies form nearly three quarters of our voluntary income and help provide valuable support to our blind heroes who have given so much for their country. Please join the growing numbers of people who have decided to leave a gift in their Will to St Dunstan's - it really can make a difference to the lives of our blind and visually impaired ex-Service people.
An extraordinary promise to extraordinary people
Norman served with the RAF Coastal Command during the Second World War and then with the Volunteer Reserve for over 40 years. Norman is almost completely blind. Since he suffered a stroke 16 years ago, he can only see vague outlines of shapes and figures. The stroke also deprived him of his speech, and the use of his right arm. During his service in the RAF and his career as a diamond setter, Norman relied on perfect vision and steady hands. So you won’t be surprised that losing both his sight and his dexterity was a crushing blow. “I was completely lost,” Norman said. “I didn’t know what I was living for.”
As Norman proves, with the right support, it is possible to overcome adversity and regain independence. On his weekly visits to our centre in Brighton, Norman received intensive speech therapy. In our art and craft workshop, he learnt how to use his hands again – making tables and chairs, and discovering a remarkable ability for painting.
“I’ve always been artistic because of my jewellery work, and I love doing things with my hands”, he says. “St Dunstan’s has trained me how to do things for myself. It has made an awful lot of difference. It’s exciting. I live a different kind of life now.”
By giving a gift in your Will to St Dunstan’s, as well as helping ex-Service people like Norman, you will also be joining the growing number of generous supporters whose thoughtfulness is vital to the lifelong support St Dunstan’s provides our beneficiaries. It is a truly extraordinary promise you can make to extraordinary people like Norman.
